    🔍 XPL Sharp Drop, HLP Bears Loss of ~$556K On November 1st XPL crashed, resulting in losses to Hyperliquid's HLP as well. According to analysis compiled by filo, HLP's liquidation vault took on approximately $12.18 million in XPL long positions and lost $556K while liquidating over 75 minutes. Notable: movements of wallets before the crash 14 out of 16 observed wallets showed fund or trading behavior connections 12 of these withdrew approximately $2.04 million in margin before the crash They account for approximately 90.7% of the position HLP took on In simple terms: they kept the long position but reduced the supporting collateral, then when price crashed, HLP took in the liquidation volume to settle. However, this alone can't confirm an attack. Those wallets also lost approximately $710K total within Hyperliquid. Whether they made it back shorting on other exchanges or actively triggered the crash isn't confirmed. Also worth noting: XPL price already dropped about 6% before HLP's first liquidation triggered. Personally, I'm more curious than who attacked, about how much HLP has to handle when positions accumulated across multiple wallets liquidate simultaneously. HLP's taking fees means it's built to absorb such losses. This becomes a case worth remembering when looking at deposit yields. filo analysis original

    XPL sharp drop before withdrawing margin and transferring long positions to HLP—analysis by kenni organizing the November 1 XPL liquidation flow. During 8 minutes before the sharp drop, major accounts maintained longs while withdrawing $1.62M in margin, and after XPL dropped about 18% in 1 minute, 11 major accounts and small accounts were liquidated in cascade. HLP took over positions worth about $12.2M, and the author estimates related losses at around $600K. The suspicious part is that new accounts did small test withdrawals beforehand, and on the main withdrawal attempt were rejected 7 times due to insufficient balance when extracting margin. The explanation is: if you throw it directly into the market you have to handle slippage, but if you reduce collateral to trigger liquidations, HLP receives the positions and clears them. https://x.com/kennishjp/status/2116772334811922815
