Standard Protocol Launches URC-5 Token Standard Protocol has launched URC-5, a new standard like ERC20. This token aims to allow trading only in designated pools. On Robinhood, $INDEX was a hit—that token would take trading TAX and use the fees to buy stocks and airdrop them to token holders. The problem was as INDEX token's market cap grew, trading volume concentrated in tax-free pools. Looking at actual trading volume, only 20% of total volume happens in the TAX pool, the rest in the tax-free pool only. URC-5 improved this issue. Previously mentioned Standard's meme launchpad now supports token launches to URC-5. Choosing this option allows trading only in specific pools. With this feature launch, $SNP came out early via Standard Meme Launchpad and hit $10M after launch, currently holding $4M. Like the $INDEX token, this token accumulates trading fees and distributes stocks. However, by using URC-5 standard and forcing specific pools only, trading fees don't happen in tax-free pools. By the way, Standard supports airdropping to bank holders when launching meme coins. SNP airdropped 80% of total supply to Standard Bank holders—I received $8,000 worth of SNP myself. The problem is you have to burn the bank to get it, so I probably won't actually receive it, and I just bought a small amount out of FOMO. Anyway, this is the biggest meme coin Standard has put out so far. The use case for URC-5 I gave as an example was because of tax, but beyond tax, the need to force certain hook usage is growing. The developer wants to force certain hook usage in Uniswap V4, but there's currently no established standard, so URC-5 came out. You could say going forward we'll probably see decent URC-5 tokens from the Standard Launchpad, so I'm thinking I'll track the Standard Launchpad a bit.
