To update the DevCon content I mentioned before, tomorrow evening at 6:30 PM a Kohaku demo will run for approximately 25 minutes. Nico from the Ethereum Foundation, who leads Kohaku with Vitalik, will present. The demo will proceed through the Ambire wallet as mentioned before. Because of this I had bought WALLET and stop-lossed earlier, but it's risen quite a bit recently... Ambire recently launched ICE, a Safe-exclusive open-source hardware wallet, and it pumped on that. Railgun hasn't seen much price movement, but Railgun was recently launched on BASE as well. Looking at Kohaku's own updates, Kohaku-cli v0.1.0, a first minor version, came out. $ kohaku transfer --from railgun --to vitalik.eth --amount-formatted 0.012345 With a single command like this, exactly 0.012345 ETH from the funds in Railgun gets transferred to Vitalik (source) Looking at some technical details, it has these characteristics: 1. When sending from a privacy protocol (ex. Railgun) to a public address, funds move privacy → burner wallet → Vitalik in that order. The burner wallet here has smart account functionality attached via EIP-7702, and this address handles unshielding Railgun funds into public funds and delivering to the destination all at once. This all executes within a single UserOp from the account abstraction standard ERC-4337. 2. UserOp is basically a transaction-like format used in account abstraction. Unlike regular transactions, UserOps aren't posted directly to public RPCs but passed to something called a bundler, which pays gas fees instead and submits to the chain. Of course it's not free—a paymaster settles later—but later when unshielding USDC it should be possible to pay gas fees in USDC instead (currently deducted from Railgun WETH). Anyway, since there's no need to separately charge ether to the burner wallet, it has the effect of better protecting privacy. 3. Since Tor is used by default, you can also hide your IP from the bundler submitting UserOps on your behalf. 4. As a result, thanks to this CLI version, wallets looking to integrate Kohaku can test more easily, and bots and agents should be able to use it easily as well. Nov 3 at Ethereum Devcon, Vitalik and Nico planned for live Kohaku demo https://cfp.devcon.org/devcon8/talk/C39QAG/ Seems the demo will proceed with Ambire wallet since it rapidly integrated Kohaku SDK. Tornado, Railgun, privacy pool and other key features expected to be showcased. Because of this news, Ambire wallet's WALLET token (+64%) and Railgun's $Rail (+8%) are surging today About 2 weeks until Devcon, tracking Railgun seems worthwhile. As mentioned before, Railgun is a project that enables not just transfers but also DeFi activities like swaps and deposits privately, and it's a project capable of proving (PPOI) non-association with crime addresses or transactions while maintaining privacy. Kohaku is an SDK that makes it easy to add these privacy features to Ethereum wallets, and once Kohaku officially launches, many wallets will integrate it, naturally increasing usage of core privacy engines like Railgun and Tornado Cash.
